On February 8 Russian science Day, established by presidential decree in 1999.
February 8, 1724 (January 28, old style) the decree of the governing Senate according to the order of Peter I of Russia had been based Academy of Sciences. In 1925 it was renamed the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1991 — the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Every year on 8 February the Russian scientific community celebrates its professional holiday — the Day of Russian science was established by presidential decree in 1999.
